The Struggle is Unawareness — The Story Behind my Why
I unconsciously chose Steve Slaunwhite’s program, “Secret to Writing High Performance B2B Copy” back in 2009 for good reason. Lol, yes I do believe we do things without the awareness of "why" we're doing it. Think about it, we really do, right?
That unconscious decision was because of what I saw and my initial experiences within the knowledge industry. I saw strength, passion, excitement, caring, authenticity, and empowerment.
I experienced hope and felt the difference the good energy of these emotions could offer me too.
Up to this point I noticed there was a huge gap between where I was to where I wanted to “be”. I called this my communication gap. And saw I wanted awesome communication in its place. Now I had comparison. And hope.
I started with the easy stuff… developing my skills. Worked hard at it. Absorbing all I could about copywriting with rote learning. Loved the idea of rote learning.
Long story short… personal development came to a halt. It literally stopped. It was like my heart was taking the lead with no ands, ifs, or buts. Seriously. There was nothing I could do but follow it. This started my personal growth journey.
Personal development… skill building would have to wait. I even stopped reading entrepreneur books, which I loved because they always told stories of possibility. Some favourite authors: Og Mandino, Earl Nightingale, Kenneth Blanshard, Brian Tracy, Zig Ziglar to name a few. .

Stepping back for a bird's eye view...
Have you heard Tony Robbins say, "Life isn't happening to you. Life is happening for you."? I see now that's what happened for me.
Today, I believe my heart saw a way to take ownership of personal growth and then lead with it because, through repetition, I'd listened to Brian Tracy's, "The Psychology of Achievement" ten years earlier. So, in hindsight, a comparison was locked in.
Then just before the detour from personal development to personal growth, I listened to Brendon Burchard, followed by Barbara DeAngelis speak on stage at a Mark-Victor Hansen Book Seminar in LA.
Brendon told a story about Sara which took me out of my head and into my heart. My proof? I couldn’t stop bawling. Sobbing. Here is the pivotal moment.
Barbara came on stage next. And, I was hooked. Here was the personal growth my heart was on the lookout for and wanted for me.
My head, not so. Afterall, personal growth is scary. It’s uncertain in that things don’t feel the same anymore. As in, outgrowing means something older. And, growing into means something newer. Phew! Talk about vulnerability. Here’s where I learn the fundamentals of breakthroughs in personal growth.
“When the student is ready, the teacher appears.” is exactly what happened. Barbara was my first breakthrough teacher, coach, and guide. Life is happening for me.

Being a student of Personal Growth
I read and reread Tony Robbins’ books Unlimited Power and Awaken the Giant Within like there’s no tomorrow.
This energy attracted my next stepping stone for personal growth. In enrolled into the online program Robbins-Madanes Training. To appease my head I said I was taking it, not to be a coach, but for it to be yet another resource I could embrace as a copywriter.
But that's not what happened. My heart had other plans. It was for me. I needed to learn how to coach me. Big time.
I am so not perfect. I am so human. All I wanted to really do was just “be” me every moment of every day. Always. And be happy with that. With me.
So what got in the way? Fear. I was afraid of everything. I still feel fear, but it's not the same. It's not everything.
What paved the way? Love. Starting with myself. And, that is the truth.
Moving along the journey... I wouldn’t be sharing the whole story if I said this is just about me. It's always so much more. It's your loved ones. You. And, your community. Along with, in my instance, the wisdom, insight, and care of so many great icons in the knowledge industry.
Of all the things I've learned and experienced within the knowledge industry, the essence can be found in my favourite quote, "Whatever the question, love is the answer." —Wayne Dyer.
What more can I ask for? : ) There has been no greater force that I can cultivate within myself to ignite all I want to experience in my day to day life. To really experience the things that I care about each day. Some core values being passion, creativity, joy, playful curiosity, inner strength, and presence.
It's not about perfection and challenges do present themselves... which is life. But being on the road to empowering yourself so you can help empower others... I can't think of a better place to be.
